Autorita di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centrale announced it has completed the pre-feasibility study, in collaboration with the University of Campania, for the launch of construction of an LNG bunkering facility in the port of Naples.
The Port of Naples is one of the largest Italian seaports and one of the largest seaports in the Mediterranean Sea basin, with an annual traffic capacity of around 25 million tons of cargo and 500,000 TEUs.
The authority added it will publish a request of expression of interest by 26 January 2018 and will engage with companies interested in the private investment and then will then plan the tender.
The gas-fueled shipping industry saw significant developments in 2017, with major LNG players predicting the coming year will mark a new beginning for LNG in the maritime.
