BASF and Forestal de Atlántico S.A. have entered into an early disclosure agreement (EDA) to advance the production of e-methanol (eMeOH) using carbon capture solutions.
As part of the partnership, BASF will provide its proprietary OASE blue technology, designed for efficient CO2 removal from flue gases, for Forestal’s Triskelion project in Galicia, Spain. This project, with a design capacity of 156 metric tons of e-methanol per day, will capture CO2 from electricity-generating turbines and convert it into e-methanol using renewable hydrogen.
The EDA enables BASF’s input into the Front End Engineering Design (FEED), which will be developed by a third-party contractor for Forestal. As explained, this step is crucial for assessing the technical and economic feasibility of the project, allowing Forestal to proceed with competitive construction bids. BASF, with its OASE portfolio, is a leader in gas treatment technology, used in over 500 plants worldwide, and will provide ongoing support during the FEED process.
The Triskelion project is a significant step in utilizing CO2 for sustainable fuel production, particularly in the maritime industry.
