The Cabinet of South Korea has approved a motion based on nurturing industries for eco-friendly vessels, in order to deal easier with the strict IMO 2020 regulations and reduce the shipping emissions. Namely, the trade ministry reported that would force a set of measure, to spread and boost the development and supply of such ships.

Until 2030, South Korea plans to replace 140 state-owned ships, with those that utilize clean energy sources.

For the vessels whose lifespans are beyond 2030, the country will install new equipment methods, for instance diesel particulate filters, to low the emissions.

Moreover, the country plans to enhance and support various types of vessels, involving cruises and fishing boats to adopt eco-friendly fuels.

Cabinet’s decision came under South Korea’s latest green energy drive, focused on reducing the fossil fuel’s use and replace it with clean and sustainable resources.

The new measures will boost lowing both emissions from fine dust and greenhouse gases.

In light of the situation, several days ago South Korea established air pollutant emission reduction incentives, announced by the Ministry of Oceans And Fisheries of the Republic of Korea.
