After they had seized the vessel in Somali waters some days earlier, Somali pirates took 11 crew members of an Indian cargo dhow captive, although the Somali security forces responded to the incident and managed to rescue the vessel, on April 10th.
The “Al Kausar” was hijacked earlier this month. The naval forces attacked the Indian ship and rescued it, but the pirates took away the 11 crew, taking them off the ship and fleeing to the shore. However, they released the two of them, when they were chased by the local state’s (Galmudug’s) security forces, Reuters reports.
The pirates said they took the crew to use it for negotiation purposes for pirates jailed in India. Along with the captives, they escaped to the hilly areas between El Hur and Hardheere.
When it was seized, the ship was en route from Dubai to Bosasso.
The incident is a part of a series of similar attacks occurring in the area in April.
