Sohar Port and Freezone (Sohar) and Svitzer signed a charter agreement for five new tugboats to replace the current Sohar tugboats and provide all day operational support for vessel movements in and around the port.
Commenting on how important are the new tugboats, Mark Geilenkirchen, CEO of Sohar Port and Freezone explained that, Sohar has experienced important growth in port operations and vessel calls during 2018. In order to keep up with these developments, the tugboats will ensure the safe and efficient navigation.

According to the agreement, Svitver will supply, man, manage, operate and maintain five tugboats at Sohar. The agreement also includes the provision of the tugboats, maintenance and the presence of skilled sailing crew.
Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, CEO of Svitzer, noted that the company will commit in providing safe and reliable, as well as adhere to the highest safety standards.
The contract will apply for 15 years with the delivery of the first tugboats planned on August 1, 2020.
