Six to be indicted for hijacking
The Russian panel probing the hijacking of a Russian-crewed cargo ship said Wednesday (17) indictments against six men have been sent to the prosecutor general for confirmation.
The Arctic Sea went missing on July 24, 2009 in the Atlantic Oceanwhile carrying a $2 million shipment of timber from Finland to Algeria – a fact thatraised never-confirmed suspicions that the ship was carrying some sort of secret or illegal cargo.
The Russian Navy found the Russian-manned freighter off the coast of West Africa weeks later and arrested eight men for hijacking. Two of the defendants have already pleaded guilty to the charge.
