The Singapore Government thanked the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) for its immediate action in extinguishing the fire and conducting search and rescue (SAR) operations, after the Maersk containership “Maersk Honam” caught fire on Tuesday, 6 of March.
Andrew Tan, Chief Executive Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore sent a letter to Director General of ICG, Rajendra Singh, thanking him for the cooperation, as the ICG and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Mumbai) assisted in fire-fighting and rescue operations for the fire that broke out on “Maersk Honam”.

Mr. Tan also expressed his regards to the crew on board the ICG ship and other ICG personnel and Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Mumbai) for assisting off-site.
From his side, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Maersk Group, Soren Toft thanked the ICG for helping tackling the flames that broke out on the ship.
The vessel “Maersk Honam” was heading to Suez when it sustained a serious fire in one of its cargo holds. 23 crew members were evacuated, of which one died, and four crewmembers are reported missing.
