The Port of Singapore has registered a record-breaking three billion gross tonnage in annual vessel arrival tonnage.
According to Maritime & Port Authority (MPA) Singapore, the three billion GT mark was crossed with the arrival of the 8,628 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), 98,799 GT Singapore-flagged containership, ONE OLYMPUS, at the Pasir Panjang Terminal on 25 December 2023.
This achievement was marked at an event organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) at PSA Horizons. The event was graced by Chee Hong Tat, Acting Minister for Transport, and attended by guests from the maritime industry. Chee presented mementoes to the Master of ONE OLYMPUS, Captain Vaibhav Narula, and the Global Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Network Express (ONE), Jeremy Nixon.
MPA Chief Executive, Teo Eng Dih, expressed humility at Singapore continuing to be a preferred port of call. He stated that collaborative efforts with tripartite stakeholders would persist to enhance port efficiency and safety.
The launch of the Just-in-Time (JIT) Planning and Coordination Platform on 1 October this year for vessels calling at PSA terminals and Jurong Port is one such initiative. The JIT Platform will help to improve vessel turnarounds and optimise port calls, and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships. It will be extended progressively to all vessels calling into Singapore from January 2024.

Ong Kim Pong, Group CEO (Designate) of PSA International, commented on the significant achievement of hitting the 3 billion GT mark. He acknowledged the trust of customers and the efforts of PSA staff over many generations since 1964 in driving Singapore’s economic growth and enabling global trade.
Finally, Terence Seow, CEO of Jurong Port, expressed Jurong Port’s commitment to building leaner and greener supply chains for enhanced productivity and quality service to valued customers. Seow expressed pride in being part of the accomplishment, reflecting the reliability and resilience of Singapore’s maritime industry.
To remind, this year Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index (ISCDI) Report named Singapore as the top maritime centre, a title it holds for 10 consecutive years.
