In its efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of its 26-vessel fleet, Siem Offshore collaborates with Wärtsilä to achieve a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 and partnership is seen as being key to finding the right technology solutions.
In particular, the agreement aims to identify and implement solutions that will increase energy efficiency and significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Siem Offshore’s vessels. Each vessel will be assessed for appropriate solutions, possible operational improvements and life extension considerations. The company hopes to reach full carbon neutrality by 2050.
Siem Offshore has a vision to become the leading vessel provider, and as operator of high-end offshore vessels facing strict environmental requirements they really challenge us as a technology provider.
..says Cato Esperø, Head of Sales, Wärtsilä Norway.
Wärtsilä is a frontrunner in developing and introducing new, environmentally friendly solutions for the maritime sector such as LNG, Methanol and Ammonia engines as well as Carbon Capture technology.
Wärtsilä has established itself as a pioneer in the development of ammonia as a fuel for both marine engines and fuel cells. The company has created a world first by successfully operating a combustion engines running on ammonia, resulting in >70% greenhouse gas reduction and have now officially launched the W25 Ammonia engine.
Siem Offshore’s GHG targets are ambitious and the decarbonisation technology is now being commercialized, thus I am confident that Wärtsilä will remain a valued partner for Siem Offshore in reaching their emission targets.
