SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2019 SMART4SEA Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead of the event, where industry stakeholders proposed nominations. The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering Smart Shipping.
The online voting process has started at https://events.safety4sea.com/2019-smart4sea-awards/ where participants can cast their votes online up to Friday 21st of December 2018. The winners will be the ones attracted the most online votes and the results will be announced during a prestigious award ceremony, on Tuesday night 29th of January, at Yacht Club of Greece, Piraeus, on the night before the 2019 SMART4SEA Conference.
The 2019 SMART4SEA Conference will take place on Wednesday 30st of January at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) at the Bookcastle of the National Library of Greece. Full details of the event are available at https://events.safety4sea.com/2019-smart4sea-conference/
Nominations shortlisted for the 2019 SMART4SEA Awards include the following organisations per category:
SMART4SEA E-Navigation Award
- Marine Traffic has been nominated for providing a unique AIS vessel tracking tool for maritime professionals, forecasting arrivals and departures in every major port and marina across the world and offering a comprehensive maritime database for vessels around the world.
- The Nautical Institute has been nominated for providing a wide range of services to enhance industry knowledge by engaging on the industry debate of autonomous ships and safety-related issues and communicating basic safety tips with respect to autonomous navigation through tis publications.
- Navtor has been nominated for its innovative complete vessel performance and passenger monitoring system as well as its Passage Planning Software Module, seeking to reduce PSC deficiencies associated with passage plan, help navigators to create compliant and accurate Passage Plan Documentation, and reduce the amount of time spent on paper shuffling.
- The Smart Navigation Project has been nominated for its goal to enhance quality and to create smart solutions for safe traffic at sea via the exchange of ship-to-ship and shore-to-ship information as a preventive measure for reducing maritime accidents in Korean waters and the whole world.
SMART4SEA Connectivity Award
- Cobham has been nominated for providing reliable maritime communication solutions in the toughest maritime conditions, through its SAILOR GX antennas which are connected to Fleet Xpress and enable the end-users to achieve unmatched levels of global connectivity, while also reducing OPEX.
- Marlink has been shortlisted for the continuous growth of its global satellite network ‘XChange Cloud’, a digital business optimization tool providing a secure platform for the optimized transfer and synchronisation of files between ship and shore, and for its Cyber Guard Suite, the company’s fully integrated Cyber Guard portfolio.
- NSSL Global has been nominated for its hybrid FusionIP, an innovative service providing optimal connectivity in coastal areas by combining the provision of VSAT and cellular connectivity in one system, enabling ships to automatically switch between mobile and satellite networks and integrating both terrestrial and satellite broadband.
- Speedcast has been shortlisted for offering remote communication and IT services, with the release of Speedcast Atlas, a fully-managed connectivity solution with multiple satellite networks covering each location to support customers through the continued digitalization and automation of their processes.
SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award
- d’Amico Group has been nominated for becoming one of the most sustainable shipping groups worldwide, with investment in an “eco-ship” newbuildings program and in the development of a very efficient Performance Monitoring system which provides ship company- specific measures for the improvement of the environmental performance of the fleet.
- Eniram has been nominated for its ‘Eniram SKYLIGHT 3.0’, a fleet performance-monitoring tool delivered as a service and supplied with portable hardware which delivers a vastly improved and more accurate solution compared to manual performance reporting.
- Propulsion Analytics has been nominated for pioneering in machine learning for engine performance evaluation with the newly-launched version of its performance management, ensuring increased operational efficiency, minimum unexpected engine downtime and optimization of maintenance.
- Smart Green Shipping Alliance has been nominated for developing the design of a sailing hybrid merchant ship externally validated as using ~50% less fuel than conventionally powered ships with the view to execute the ship design and take this, and other complementary and discrete low carbon, maritime renewables solutions to scale.
SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award
- ABS has been shortlisted for developing a new methodology to measure cyber security risk associated with operational technology, providing marine and offshore clients a calculated risk index for vessels, fleets and facilities. The index quantifies cyber security risk and gives owners and operators an actionable strategy.
- IQ Solutions has been nominated for optimizing and securing the shipping business via one complete cyber-secure ICT Solution, improving business processes, merging IT and Communications, and addressing complex and critical operational needs between ship and land.
- OSM OSERV has been nominated for the launch of its Seawall Cyber Security Package, a specialized risk management solution for the assessments of threats and for the implementation of control measures to protect critical data against cyber-attacks on vessels.
- QinetiQ has been nominated for its integrated solutions against data theft, unauthorized access and cyber-attacks and for helping the industry to embrace new cyber resilient technologies, while engaging in UK Government activities promoting cyber security awareness and the field of cyber security as a career opportunity.
SMART4SEA Training Award
- DNV GL has been shortlisted for its Maritime Academy providing one of the broadest portfolios of training courses for the maritime industry and two e-learning courses on Cyber Security and Energy Efficiency. With their global network, they are able to exploit best practices and offer the industry a comprehensive training programme.
- Frederic University has been shortlisted for the introduction of a very innovative training program to provide appropriate training to holders of BSc degree in mechanical engineering to enable them to obtain the Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) Certificate of Competency from the Maritime Administration of Cyprus.
- Kongsberg has been nominated for operating a network of global training centres, with training simulators, Engine Room Simulators, Navigation Simulators, and Cargo Simulators, emphasizing on providing quality solutions for safe navigation and operations at sea in the commercial offshore, maritime, subsea and merchant shipping industries.
- Magsaysay Maritime Corporation has been shortlisted for training investments in the last year, with a key highlight the inauguration of the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) in the Philippines aimed at providing students with real-life working environments and knowledge meeting the demands of the changing maritime industry.
SMART4SEA Technology Award
- Columbia Shipmanagement has been shortlisted for its Digital Optimization Room, a control room which is being developed in CSM Cyprus facilities aimed to help clients to optimize cost and monitor the vessel performance in real time in order to be more efficient with their operations.
- GTMaritime has been shortlisted for vastly investing in infrastructure and processes to provide continuous service and delivering consecutive months of uninterrupted business operation at a great range of technology solutions and services for the maritime industry.
- Inmarsat has been nominated for its ‘Fleet Data’, a combined hardware, software and service solution developed by Inmarsat and Danelec Marine to remove a main obstacle blocking shipping’s digital transformation by enabling real-time gathering and extracting of data generated by ships in day-to-day operation.
- Stealthgas has been nominated for its ‘Eco Freeze’ vessel which is an LPG Carrier encompassing all latest technologies, being one of the first LPG vessels with hybrid scrubber and advanced cargo handling system. The vessel is a landmark on the field of LPG sector for the international shipping industry.
SMART4SEA Personality & Leadership Awards
There are no nominees shortlisted for this Award. After consideration and review of a list of “Editor’s Pick” nominees, the SAFETY4SEA Team will announce the winners on the night of the awards presentation. These are special category awards for any individual person that provided industry leadership and contributed towards smarter shipping throughout his/her career.
