SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2018 SMART4SEA Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead of the event, where industry stakeholders proposed nominations. The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering Safety Excellence & Sustainable Shipping.
The online voting process has started at https://www.safety4sea.com/2018-smart4sea-awards/ where participants can cast their votes online up to Friday the 15th of December 2017. The winners will be the ones attracted the most online votes and the results will be announced during a prestigious award ceremony, on Tuesday night 30rd of January, at Yacht Club of Greece, Piraeus, on the night before the 2018 SMART4SEA Conference. The 2018 SMART4SEA Conference will take place on Wednesday 31st of January at Eugenides Foundation in Athens. Nominations shortlisted for the 2018 SMART4SEA Awards include the following organisations per category:
SMART4SEA E-Navigation Award
- ChartCo has been nominated for facilitating the transition to digital navigation for commercial shipping by providing a wide range of solutions including ‘PassageManage’r software, MARPOL compliance service ‘EnviroManager’, ‘Regs4ships’ digital solution and the safety & quality management system ‘Docmap’.
- ECDIS Ltd has been nominated for specializing in e-navigation by offering ECDIS fundamental knowledge to crew members of navigational responsibilities, enabling them to keep a safe navigational watch using ECDIS and interface with other onboard equipment.
- Marine Traffic has been nominated for being a global pioneer in AIS vessel tracking by providing a comprehensive maritime database including vessels positions, vessel & port related events and other useful real-time information for vessels around the world.
- PortCDM, a project concept within the STM Validation, has been nominated for optimizing the planning process for ports by communicating with the vessel involved, the hinterland operators and all other ports involved. This enables all parties to perform transparent & just-in-time operations, reduce waiting and utilize all assets.
- Transas has been nominated for THESIS, the first solution to connect ships, operations centres and vessel traffic control in a single e-navigation community. Core THESIS principles are identifiable in the data exchange within Yamal LNG, where Transas is delivering 26 ship bridge systems, the Vessel Traffic Systems and training simulators.
SMART4SEA Connectivity Award
- Cobham has been nominated for providing reliable maritime communications in the toughest maritime conditions, enabling safety and efficiency improvements on board merchant ship and fishing vessels, while proving a popular choice for keeping ocean going yachts and motorboats connected globally.
- Onboard has been nominated for its innovative ‘Onboard platform’ which enables users to deploy applications depending on their subscriptions, and to update features without the delay of service, both offshore and onshore, based on the latest cloud and mobile technologies.
- Speedcast has been nominated for its ‘SIGMA Gateway Xtreme’, a new network management device capable of controlling Speedcast’s Ku-band VSAT services, Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress and 4G/LTE services, to offer redundancy in communications links alongside virtual machine capabilities.
- Tototheo Maritime has been nominated for offering innovative, efficient and functional solutions in the fields of satellite and radio communication, automation and navigation systems through a world-wide network of qualified partners and branches along the international shipping routes.
SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award
- BMT Smart has been nominated for its ‘SMART FLEET’ management system which allows users to check their fleet performance in an instant and focuses on the vessels that really matter. It uses reliable automated data to improve the accuracy of vessel performance monitoring and contributes to the over vessel efficiency.
- Eniram has been nominated for its ‘Eniram Performance’ which uses Eniram Platform installed onboard vessels and integrated with other onboard systems such as the bridge and automation systems, to collect real-time performance data and monitor energy management.
- Kongsberg Maritime has been nominated for its Vessel Performance System (VPS) which addresses engine optimization, speed profile, optimal trim, speed and rpm/pitch to reduce operating costs. The system is installed and proven successful on a variety of ship types.
- Marorka has been nominated for providing a wide range of data-driven energy management and operational performance solutions for the international maritime industry, with focus on emission reduction and fuel savings, compliance and reporting, performance optimization and asset security.
- Propulsion Analytics has been nominated for its ‘Engine Hyper Cube’ which handles engine performance hyper-maps to provide reliable and useful engine diagnostics and troubleshooting actions for performance analysis, recommendations for engine optimization and support towards condition-based maintenance.
SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award
- ASKET Ltd. has been nominated for adjusting their platform to offer free services towards cyber security including alerts and application with the aim to provide situational awareness and advice on potential cyber security risks, security levels and setting of security parameters and requirements.
- Aspida has been nominated for successfully combining its maritime and cyber expertise to develop cyber security solutions for maritime and energy industries by utilizing existing maritime risk tools and methodologies to provide holistic and easily accessible solutions aimed to all shipowners and managers.
- Fidra Films has been nominated for achieving a successful campaign named ‘Be CyberAware at Sea’ which is an engaging, entertaining and effective tool in the fight against data loss, theft and corruption, directed by its frontman Chris Young who gathered the required sponsorship and involving organizations to realize this project.
- Hudson Analytics has been nominated for its ‘HACyberLogix’ platform to support maritime transportation operators and insurers in understanding, assessing, and addressing the maritime cyber threat. It is a cloud-based tool that enables stakeholders to assess and benchmark the cybersecurity capability maturity of their entire organization.
- KVH Videotel has been nominated for launching a cyber security training programme, produced in association with BIMCO, to address the very real threat of ransomware and other computer system breaches that could severely affect the safety of ships’ crew, systems and operations.
- Steamship Mutual has been nominated for its ‘Cyber Security: Smart, Safe Shipping’ DVD-ROM which promotes an awareness of cyber risks at sea featuring advice on strategies that ought to be adopted as well as reference and links to useful documents and websites .
SMART4SEA Training Award
- Be Cyber Aware At Sea has been nominated for uniting industry stakeholders to raise awareness towards cyber security. The campaign provides free resources such as downloadable posters, ‘Phish & Ships’ newsletter, a video blog each month with guest interviewees, ‘Shark Bytes’ and useful daily updates via all social media channels.
- Parker Kittiwake has been nominated for its ‘Parker Kittiwake Gold Guide’ which is a reference guide to fuel, hydraulic, and lubricating oil for the industry for smart maintenance of on-board systems. It includes valuable input from Wärtsilä, NSD Corporation, ExxonMobil, IBIA, John H Whitaker Tankers, Institute of Marine Engineers, and ISO.
- Safebridge has been nominated for providing unique online simulation training, supported by the Hamburg Innovation Foundation, which enables the user to work with exactly the same system from home that he will later use on board.
- SeaFocus has been nominated for its project called #IntelligenceHunt which brings companies and universities together working on real cases with an innovative concept. The project is open for international students from various faculties to apply as candidates and the cases cover a variety of maritime business’ areas.
- Thome Group has been nominated for investing in simulation training to enable its crew to gain practical simulation experience in the engine room. Seafarers are able to determine and resolve the problems that occur onboard and the system can also help them do optimal engine control and troubleshooting.
SMART4SEA Technology Award
- Dryad Maritime has been nominated for its ‘Dryad Lab’ program that focuses specifically on future threat and risk mitigation to ensure smart and safe voyages, offering many benefits such as better routing, optimized use of weather patterns & ocean currents and reduced unnecessary delays.
- FLIR Systems has been nominated for offering a wide range of smart and innovative sensing solutions through into daily life onboard through thermal imaging systems, visible-light imaging systems, locator systems, measurement and diagnostic systems, and advanced threat detection systems.
- Martek Marine has been nominated for improving EMSA’s surveillance capabilities with the supply of its Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (drones) to be used of assistance with border control activities, search & rescue operations and monitoring of pollution, as well as the detection of illegal fishing and drug and people trafficking.
- OceanManager has been nominated for its software for recording and logging of Work and Rest Hours for the crew onboard with use of QR Code for simple and easy reporting. It succeeds in managing crew fatigue by monitoring sign in and out time and proactively inform them if they are compliant with regulations.
- Rolls Royce Marine has been nominated for its project ‘Sisu’ which uses the latest technologies made possible by digitalization to demonstrate the world’s first remotely-operated commercial vessel. Conducted in Copenhagen Harbour in February, the project marks a major milestone on the journey towards remote and autonomous ships.
SMART4SEA Personality & Leadership Awards
There are no nominees shortlisted for this Award. After consideration and review of a list of “Editor’s Pick” nominees, the SAFETY4SEA Team will announce the winners on the night of the awards presentation. These are special category awards for any individual person that provided industry leadership and contributed towards smarter shipping throughout his/her career.
