SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2024 GREEN4SEA Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead, where industry stakeholders proposed nominations. The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering green and sustainable shipping.
The online voting process has started at https://events.safety4sea.com/2024-green4sea-virtual-awards/ where participants can cast their votes online up to 22nd of March, 2024. The winners will be the ones attracted the most online votes and the results will be announced at a dedicated special event on Thursday, 9th of May 2024.
GREEN4SEA Sustainability Award
To be awarded to any organization that promoted an ESG agenda and contributed towards sustainable shipping
- Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM) has been nominated for committing to social responsibility to help protect the environment, ensure crew welfare and lead the way in building a sustainable future for shipping. Through a number of projects and initiatives CSM provides a joined-up approach to facing the environmental impacts.
- RightShip has been nominated for its new GHG Rating which sets a gold standard for calculating and comparing the emissions output of commercial vessels. Easy to understand, built on a robust methodology, and trusted and used as a ‘common language’ across the industry, the rating is a pivotal tool for global maritime decarbonisation.
- Seaspan Corporation has been nominated for its ESG Program that has brought great momentum to its sustainability efforts in support of the UN Global Compact Principles and Sustainable Development Goals. Seaspan is already transitioning its fleet with 25 LNG dual fuel newbuild vessels and 5 methanol main engine retrofits.
- UCL Energy Institute has been nominated for hosting a world-leading research group focused on the decarbonization of the shipping sector. Through the commercial advisory service UMAS, UCL Energy Institute led the development of the methodology and metrics for decarbonization alignment in the Sea Cargo Charter.
- V. Group has been nominated for its outstanding ESG and sustainability strategy that set a new benchmark. The company fosters collaborations for enhanced sustainability and has been involved in intensive research and development to identify practical approaches for maritime decarbonization, with alternative fuels as a key focus area.
GREEN4SEA Clean Shipping Award
To be awarded to any organization that contributed towards cleaner shipping
- Blue Sky Maritime Coalition has been nominated for its innovative publication titled ‘Roadmap to Net-Zero Emissions.’ This publication presents a comprehensive, collaborative approach to decarbonization, increasing the likelihood of success for the North American Waterborne Transportation sector.
- Greensea IQ has been nominated for its EverClean technology, which addresses the age-old problem of biofouling on ships through innovative robotic solutions. It transforms traditional hull maintenance models, making a significant impact on fuel savings, carbon reduction, data-driven intelligence, and environmental compliance.
- LR Maritime Decarbonisation Hub has been nominated for its role in accelerating the sustainable decarbonization of the maritime industry. Through leadership, research, partnerships, and expertise, it aims to enable the delivery and operation of safe, technically feasible, and commercially viable zero-emission vessels by 2030.
- Port of Rotterdam has been nominated for its proactive efforts in preparing for the transition to cleaner shipping. Notably, the Port is accelerating and scaling up shore power for seagoing vessels, fostering collaborations to facilitate green corridors, and developing infrastructure to support green hydrogen as a sustainable fuel.
- Manta Marine Technologies has been nominated for its broad portfolio of technologies with a strong focus on Vessel Optimisation technologies, Shore Power and the successful installation of the Wind Assisted Propulsion technology that aim to reduce global GHG emissions and support industry’s green transition.
GREEN4SEA Initiative Award
To be awarded to any organization or association that sparked, realised, or significantly contributed with a specific initiative towards greener shipping
- Cargo Owners for Zero Emission Vessels (coZEV) has been nominated for launching ZEMBA alliance with partners to fast-track commercial deployment of zero-emissions shipping services at scale. This initiative provides opportunities for cargo owner companies to collaboratively lead and innovate toward maritime decarbonization.
- Oceanic has been nominated for its efforts to eliminate the use of non-essential Single Use Plastic (SUP) onboard vessels, replacing them with reusable non-plastic alternatives or biodegradable options where possible. Ahead of the EU legislation (Directive 2019/904) and since 2019, Oceanic has removed all SUP items from their procurement process, eliminating such items from 2,300+ vessels.
- OneLink has been nominated for its “OneLink platform” which incorporates the latest digital tools such as using AR/VR to create digital twins and applying machine learning to solve performance issues by predicting hull and engine health.
- PTC Shipmanagement has been nominated for demonstrating outstanding leadership and commitment to sustainability through its partnership with One Earth One Ocean (OEOO) and HOLCIM. The company plays a vital role in reducing plastic waste in our oceans and protecting marine ecosystems.
- Safetytech Accelerator has been nominated for leading the Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMII), a coalition of shipping leaders united to identify, accelerate and advocate technology solutions to accurately measure and abate methane emissions onboard LNG-fuelled vessels.
GREEN4SEA Technology Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant technological achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of environmental maritime activity
- Anemoi Marine Technologies Ltd has been nominated for its Rotor Sail technology that demonstrates increased vessel efficiency, reducing fuel consumption, bunker costs and harmful emissions. The company has designed patented systems which allow the Rotor Sails to be moved or folded on the deck.
- Ascenz Marorka has been nominated for its ‘Vessel Performance Optimization Platform’ which provides detailed analytics, performance evaluation, hull & propeller monitoring, machinery optimization, accurate and automated analysis of voyage execution, recommending the best speed for transit periods.
- ERMA FIRST has been nominated for the ‘ERMA FIRST CCS System’ which is a major R&D project related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) that has made strong progress in developing a next generation post combustion CCS systems. Lloyd’s Register (LR) and DNV have awarded ERMA FIRST an Approval in Principle (AiP).
- MAN Energy Solutions has been nominated for developing the ‘methanol GenSet’ engine capable of running on conventional fuel, biofuels and green methanol. The new methanol GenSet is based on a classic, reliable standard that already has more than 110 million hours in commercial operation.
- SRC Group has been nominated for its ‘Methanol Superstorage’ which is a new and space-efficient retrofit methanol-storage solution that will allow existing ships and newbuilds to play a full role in energy transition. SCR’s unique technology has recently received approval in principle from Lloyd’s Register.
- ZeroNorth has been nominated for its multi-service platform that helps the global shipping industry to achieve optimal commercial performance and reduce its carbon emissions, incorporating services across specialty areas including Chartering, Voyage, Vessel and Bunkering, Reporting, and Emissions Analysis.
GREEN4SEA Tanker Operator Award
To be awarded to any ship operator of oil or chemical tankers or gas carriers that demonstrated environmental excellence and performance above average in any aspect of maritime activity
- ADNOC Logistics & Services has been nominated for its commitment to energy efficiency investment and dedication to innovation and sustainability. The company has made significant investments in new fuel-efficient vessels and advanced technologies, to reduce emissions and minimize the environmental impact of its operations.
- Avin International Ltd has been nominated for investing in energy saving technologies and adapting to green practices to reduce its environmental impact towards a more sustainable future. The company maintains high standards of occupational health, safety, and pollution prevention.
- M.T.M. Ship Management Pte Ltd. has been nominated for investing in biofuels as a practical and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels that leads to significantly reduced greenhouse gas. MTM aims to expand the use of sustainable Biofuels, together with other technologies, in order to further optimize the company’s Green Strategy.
- Northern Marine has been nominated for taking action towards green shipping. The company has recently welcomed newbuild methanol-powered vessels into management, equipped with the latest generation dual-fuel engines.
- Thenamaris has been nominated for leading the way in environmental practices. As an industry pioneer, the company was the first European ship management company to comply with the Voluntary Best Achievable Protection (VBAP) standards and the even stricter Exceptional Compliance Program (ECOPRO) standards.
GREEN4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award
To be awarded to any ship operator of bulk carriers or general dry cargo vessels that demonstrated environmental excellence and performance above average in any aspect of maritime activity
- Golden Union Shipping Company S.A. has been nominated for committing to practices aligned with IMO 2050 targets and a zero-carbon future. The company implements several measures for enhanced energy efficiency and has embraced sustainability as a key component of its strategy.
- Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG has been nominated for its leadership in promoting sustainability. Through collaboration with industry stakeholders, the company is driving positive change and has committed to an ambitious decarbonization trajectory, aiming for sustainable levels in all aspects.
- Star Bulk Management Inc has been nominated for committing to Environment Society and Governance (ESG) and integrating sustainability into every aspect of their operations. The company focuses on measures to reduce carbon footprint, monitors vessels’ GHG emissions and supports the Sea Cargo Charter initiative.
- Swire Bulk Pte. Ltd. has been nominated for its ‘SailGreener’ program wherein the company provides customers with the opportunity to offset the carbon footprint of their shipments by contributing to projects that reduce or prevent carbon emissions, while also delivering economic, community, and social benefits.
- Synergy Marine Group has been nominated for its commitment to sustainable practices and widespread investment in the latest technology to meet future demand. It has joined the UN’s ‘Call to Action’ and is promoting wind propulsion, batteries and fuel cells.
GREEN4SEA Personality & Leadership Awards
There are no nominees shortlisted for this Award. After consideration and review of a list of “Editor’s Pick” nominees, the SAFETY4SEA Team will announce the winners during the awards presentation. These are special category awards for any individual person that provided industry leadership and contributed towards greener shipping throughout his/her career.
