GREEN4SEA is pleased to announce for the second year the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2017 GREEN4SEA Awards following the successful inaugural awards in 2016.
The GREEN4SEA Awards are to be awarded to any organization that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering Environmental Excellence & Sustainable Shipping. An open nomination process was initiated earlier this year to the industry stakeholders who proposed nominations online. The awards presentation will take place at a special ceremony on the night before the 2017 GREEN4SEA Conference.
Nominations shortlisted for the 2017 GREEN4SEA Awards include the following organisations per category:
GREEN4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award
- Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management has been nominated for its presence in shipping with zero tolerance policy for environmental pollution and clear environmental procedures & equipment concerning regulation requirements for bulk carriers.
- Danaos Corporation has been nominated for implementing various Emissions Control Schemes with the aim to optimize fuel efficiency while reducing emissions, and contribute to tackling global warming.
- ESL Shipping has been nominated for investing in the world’s first LNG-powered Handy size bulk carriers which are ice-class 1A ships, designed by Deltamarin and powered by MAN B&W for operating in the Baltic Sea within 2018.
- TOTE Maritime has been nominated for introducing to the Puerto Rico trade the first two LNG-powered Marlin Class containerships, designed to result in 98% reduction in NOx, 97% reduction in SOx and a 72% reduction in CO2 emissions.
- Wallem Ship Management has been nominated for implementing green shipping practices to reduce its environmental footprint, being the only Hong-Kong based company to have received the Green Award for its ships.
GREEN4SEA Initiative Award
- GloMEEP has been nominated for its continuous efforts to support the implementation of energy efficiency measures to shipping industry by providing workshops and training courses with respect to Chapter 4, MARPOL Annex VI.
- Liberian Registry has been nominated for leading a move to amend the BWM Convention to allow certain ships additional time beyond 2020 and ensure that new BWMS are commercially available, along with dockyard space for installation.
- Magnuss has been nominated for its patent-protected VOSS™ design approved by Lloyd’s Register which is a mechanical sail that converts wind into forward augmenting ship propulsion and expecting to achieve 20-30% in fuel savings.
- SEA\LNG has been nominated for bringing together industry’s key players with the aim to break down the commercial obstacles and transform the localized use of LNG as a marine fuel into a global reality.
- Ursus Maritime Capital has been nominated for offering incentives to green retrofit projects for ships flying the Liberian flag, including efficiency and emissions retrofit consulting and full financing for owners/charterers with repayment based on the savings achieved.
GREEN4SEA Excellence Award
- ESPO has been nominated for its environmental review with the aim to update the top 10 environmental priorities of European ports and to produce further benchmark figures in key areas of port environmental management.
- IHMA has been nominated for its efforts to set new standards in IHM preparations for the implementation of the EU Regulation on Ship Recycling and raise awareness on what owners should know about HazMat on board.
- INTERTANKO has been nominated for taking considerable action towards the adoption by IMO of 2020 as the implementation date for the 0.5% Global Sulphur Cap and its various efforts to address issues regarding the reduction of shipping emissions.
- MARTECMA has been nominated for bringing together Greek Technical Managers to share experience feedback on how industry should tackle emissions by identifying the technical requirements of the abatement technology and scrubber designs.
- Port of Gothenburg has been nominated for its contribution to sustainable transport via discounts on the port charge to vessels with environmental performance, LNG bunkering services, onshore power supply and investments for preserving surrounding areas
GREEN4SEA Technology Award
- ABB has been nominated for providing Sea Water Cooling Pumps and Engine Room Ventilation Fans Variable Frequency Drives Upgrade, which are energy efficient solutions offering savings between 40% – 80%, mitigation of cavitation risk, reliability and extended lifetime.
- I-Tech AB has been nominated for its antifouling ingredient Selektope® which since 2016, it is featured in coatings launched by Chugoku Marine Paints, and according to test results, it reduces barnacle fouling, lowers water resistance and potentially reduces drag up to 40%.
- GAC EnvironHull has been nominated for using the HullWiper Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) technology, an environmentally friendly hull cleaning solution which significantly eliminates the necessity for expensive down-time for cleaning operations.
- Oceansaver has been nominated for its MKII BWTS which received USCG Type Approval in Dec. 2016, being the first system supplier utilizing electrochlorination; the system fits for installation in medium and large vessels like LR1s, VLCCs, and large gas carriers.
- Thordon Bearings has been nominated for its SeaThigor Forward Seal for raising the bar in dynamic and static seal design. SeaThigor incorporates a secondary seal module to provide Safe-Return-To-Port capability in the event of a face failure of the primary seal.
GREEN4SEA Tanker Operator Award
- StealthGas has been nominated for featuring a strong green fleet of vessels, the majority of which is consisted of eco LPG carriers, being the world’s largest owner of LPG pressurized carriers in the 3,000-8,000cbm segment.
- Stena Bulk has been nominated for actively working on improving its annual energy efficiency by implementing continuous improvements to technical solutions, energy management, optimisation and individual energy budgets produced for each vessel before every trip.
- Teekay has been nominated for its Creole Spirit which is the first LNG vessel powered with M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) twin engines, proven by sea trials to be the most efficient LNG ship on the water with the lowest unit freight cost in the world fleet.
- Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement has been nominated for setting a clear direction towards green shipping by enrolling within 2016 nine newbuilds to Green Award which requires onboard surveys to confirm they meet the Green Award requirements.
GREEN4SEA Clean Shipping Award
- DFDS has been nominated for shedding its focus on green shipping by introducing more efficient ship operations, rewarding crews for reducing fuel consumption, sharing best practices among the ships’ crews and investing in scrubber installations
- Ecoslops has been nominated for providing a unique technology that upgrades ship-generated hydrocarbon residues, or ‘slops’, into new fuels and light bitumen, which can be sold back into the market, creating a sustainable cycle.
- GMS has been nominated for its ongoing efforts on sustainable recycling practices, by deploying a dedicated ‘Green Team’ working with industry stakeholders towards improvements in workers’ conditions & standards in Asian ship recycling yards.
- Port of Rotterdam has been nominated for addressing a sustainable future via its Port Vision 2030 which entails ten crucial success factors for transforming Rotterdam into a leading Global Hub and Europe’s Industrial Cluster.
- Sustainable Shipping Initiative has been nominated for its Vision for 2040 towards a sustainable shipping industry by setting priorities and aspirations clearly via its ‘Roadmap’ and ‘Case for Action’ initiatives.
GREEN4SEA Personality Award
After consideration and review of a list of “Editor’s Pick” nominees, the GREEN4SEA Team will announce the winner on the night of the awards presentation. This is a special category award for any individual person that provided industry leadership and contributed towards greener and sustainable shipping.
The online voting process has started at http://www.green4sea.com/2017-green4sea-awards/ where participants can submit their votes online up to Friday the 24th of March 2017. The winners will be the ones received the most online votes and the results will be announced during a prestigious award ceremony on the night before the 2017 GREEN4SEA Conference.
