ShipServ announced that it has earned ISO 27001 certification by QMS for its information security management system, that helps to combat cyber security threats. The certification also compliments the existing controls ShipServ has in place, including regular external Penetration Tests, independent reviews of its IT operations, and constant review of potentially valuable security standards, such as NIST and CSE.
Implemented in 2013 by the International Organisation for Standardisation, ISO 27001 is one of the most recognised global standards, that demands best practice in establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system.
Moreover, the standard provides a framework for setting out policies and procedures for the effective management of confidential and sensitive information, as well as the application of information security controls.
According to the company, this certification shows that it is well prepared to comply with the EU GDPR, coming into force in May 2018, which places strict regulations on any company that processes personal information of any European citizen.
Commenting on this certification, Kim Skaarup, Chief Operating Officer, ShipServ, said the company is able to defend against potential data system vulnerabilities, and ensure that data is handled in a safe, reliable, and confidential manner, despite the rising cyber threat.
To ensure that it maintains the high standards required for all its certifications, ShipServ has also strengthened its core IT operations team.
