As Samsung Heavy Industries reported on Monday, April 22, it signed a contract with an Asian shipping company, for the construction of a storage and offloading unit that will cost 1.1 trillion won, under the term that the client’s move is supported by the partner and the government.
As Business Korea noted, in the possibility that the shipbuilder seals the deal, the deal will be the first offshore plant in two years, and the first contract for a Korean shipbuilder for 2019.
The FPSO deal is equal to 21% of SHI’s sales for 2018. Therefore, by signing this contract Samsung Heavy Industries could reach 29% of its order target of US$7.8 billion for this year.
In light of this contract, the shipbuilder will achieve its goal for 2019, keeping in mind that the shipbuilder faced many difficulties in 2018, and failed to attain its order receipt goal of US$ 6.3 billion.

Yet, on April 22, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) launched two very large crude oil carriers (VLCCs) for European shipowners at the same time.
Its Dock 1 is the largest in the world recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
The dock is 530 meters long and 131 meters wide. The dock is able to construct four vessels, the two entire bodies and two half bodies of 330-meter-long and 60-meter-wide VLCCs –- at the same time.
