The Elican wind turbine, which is self-installing, is currently undergoing the final tests in the Spanish port of Arinaga in Gran Canaria, before it can be able to be towed to the installation site. This will probably happen at the end of May.
The pioneering wind turbine’s rotor and the blades were installed on the telescopic tower in April, while an auxiliary flotation system and the installation of the turbine was successfully were attached to the unit.

Elican is supported again by the H2020 Programme, and it will design, build, certify and fully demonstrate in operative environment a deep water substructure prototype supporting a 5mw offshore wind turbine.
It will comprise the manufacturing and installation of the telescopic wind tower in the dry-dock built for the purpose in the Arinaga harbor (Gran Canaria), the installation of a 5 mw offshore wind turbine, the transportation of the assembly, the ballasting of the foundation, the connection of the turbine to the grid and the monitoring of the turbine under operation.
