ADMIRALTY information overlay added to Jargoons Seall Passage Planner
The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office has announced that Jargoon, a software company specialising in thedevelopment of solutions for sea navigation and chart display, now offers the ADMIRALTY Information Overlay (AIO)with advanced functions in its new Seall Passage Planner software tool.
AIO is a free service to ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service (AVCS) customers and the only service available thatincludes worldwide Admiralty Temporary and Preliminary Notices to Mariners (T&P NMs) as an overlay on ENCs.
AIO is also the only service to include the results of the ADMIRALTY Assurance Programme, which is acomprehensive review of the world’s Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) being undertaken by the UKHO toidentify and resolve significant differences between ENCs and existing paper charts, presenting these as ENCPreliminary Notices to Mariners (EPNMs).
Seall Passage Planner was launched by Jargoon in November 2013 and is a new software tool that enablesmariners to access up-to-date voyage information in order to negotiate routes and reach destinations safely. It has atouch screen functionality which will make it even faster and simpler for mariners to have essential navigationinformation at their disposal, allowing the mariner to plan their voyage within the Seall Passage Planner applicationand use a CD, DVD or USB stick to export the data into their ECDIS.
Jargoon’s new Seall Passage Planner makes use of the vital navigational information provided by the ADMIRALTYInformation Overlay (AIO) in a number of innovative ways:
- Filtering AIO based on the notice type.
- Offering enhanced AIO pick reporting.
- Automatic route validation against AIO: detecting where routes intersect AIO objects and ensuring that adanger highlight annotation is presented in the plan overlay.
- Automatic route validation against AIO detecting proximity. This can be extended with a proximity warning ifa route passes within a configurable distance of a notice.
- Paper based report that lists the above intersection and proximity alerts with details of the notice and theAVCS cells affected.
Hugh Phillips, Head of Product Management, United Kingdom Hydrographic Office: “Jargoon is the twelfth OEM toinclude AIO display capability into their product, driven by increasing customer demand for P&T NM display overENCs. Their Seall Passage Planner is the first to include AIO in a touch screen environment and we are verypleased to be working together with Jargoon to provide mariners with innovative planning tools.”
Des Neill, Managing Director of Jargoon, added: “The field of ‘e-navigation’ is changing so quickly; I believe what themariner needs is safety through efficiency. With one single click of the Seall route validation button we can now notonly ensure the mariner has the latest AIO and AVCS data available, but that information from both has been addedto the route validation section of their passage plan report. A single click meets items 7 through 11 of the AdmiraltyGuide to ECDIS audits and inspections which refers to ‘Charts and other navigational information’. This plugs thegaps typically found by an audit inspector on a vessel moving from paper based procedures to ECDIS as its primarymeans of navigation.
