A scalloping ship crew member pleaded guilty in Boston’s federal court for murder in the 2018 incident off the Massachusetts coast, after he reportedly attacked three crew members and, eventually, killing one.
According to the court documents, the crew mate admitted to stabbing another crew member on board Captain Billy Haver, a fishing vessel, and hurting two more with a hammer.
More specifically, on 23 September 2018, the man first struck a crew member with a hammer. He then walked out onto the deck and stabbed a second victim multiple times with a long fillet knife. After that, he hit a third victim’s head with a hammer just when the man emerged from the vessel’s ice hold, investigators informed.
He then reached for the vessel’s mast after struggling with the vessel captain.
The captain tried to reach out to the Coast Guard for help and he additionally sent out a distress call to other vessels that was present in the area. TGerman cruise ship Mein Schiff 6 responded, taking two injured fishermen on board, prosecutors said.
The stabbed victim died while the other two members of the crew were brought on board for treatment and survived. The seafarer who committed the murder stayed on top of the scalloping ship’s mast until the Coast Guardsman arrested him.
Now, the seafarer faces a a sentence of up to life in prison for the charge of second-degree murder. Additionally to the second-degree murder, officials reported that he also admitted to the charges of attempting to assault and murder with a dangerous weapon. On June 28, he is going to appear to the court for his sentence.
