Specifically, the increase was mostly based to funding of modernization of environment protection facilities and regular air quality control.

Although the port experienced a 12% increase in cargo throughput to 7,7 million tonnes the company was able to reduce environmental footprint in all major parameters.


Moreover, during 2018 the port's investment in modernizing the port water environmental facilities soared 50% to RUB 21.6 million rubles.

Yet, the company continued to enhance water disposal system and overhauled some sections of the sewer and the specific volume of waste per a tonne of handled cargo reduced by 24%, gross volume by 15%.

Also it increased its clean air programme by threefold to RUB 224,000 financing of control measures of air quality compliance.

Therefore, the samples that were taken by air and the measurements at the border of the sanitary protection zone rose by 1.5 times. The monitoring was conducted by experts.

The lab analysis results confirmed the compliance of air quality to standards. The company managed to reduce by 4% specific emissions per a tonne of handled cargo.

In order to achieve its goal on reducing production and consumption waste, the port conducted waste management action plan. Therefore, the company's specific waste volume for a year, declined by 24% and the gross volume by 14.6%.

Meanwhile, the overall volume of neutralized and recycled waste rose by two times further use.

Generally, Sea Port of St Petersburg JSC experienced an overall increase in its throughput in 2018.
