A salvage operation will begin on the car carrier Felicity Ace that caught fire on February 16, off the Azores in the Atlantic.
Namely, MOL Shipmanagement Singapore appointed a salvage company, and an initial salvage team has arrived in the Azores.
Further salvage assets are also being readied to attend the vessel.
A team of sixteen experts from subsidiary SMIT Salvage was mobilised and is present on the Azores, according to Boskalis, adding that a large equipment is heading from Spain and the Netherlands to help with the fire fighting.
In addition, the Portuguese Navy has a warship standing by and monitoring the drift of the ship.
The fire broke out onboard the car carrier Felicity Ace, with all 22 crew being evacuated successfully.
The fire ripped through one of the ship’s cargo decks while it was crossing the Atlantic Ocean near the Azores.
The Portuguese navy and four merchant ships took part in the rescue of the vessel which was midway through a voyage taking German cars from Emden to Rhode Island when the blaze began.
The crew of the Felicity Ace left the ship on a lifeboat and were picked up by Resilient Warrior, a tanker operated by Greek company Polembros Shipping.
