The Russian Register of Shipping published the new edition of the Rules for the Classification and Construction of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (2019). As compared to the previous edition of 2016, the Rules contain some amendments taking into account the new international requirements.
The revised rules also take into consideration the feedback gained during technical supervision of design and construction of LNG carriers at the shipyards in the South Korea, as well as the Register’s cooperation with leading developers of LNG containment systems.
In some sections of the Rules, the vague and unclear wordings allowing ambiguous interpretation have been deleted.
Part IV “Cargo Containment” is also completely amended in the new edition.
For the convenience of users, the part structure is fully consistent with the similar section of the IMO International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code).
The requirements for the application of calculation methods have been added while determining the loads on the walls of the membrane cargo tanks during sloshing. The provisions of IACS UIs have been included.
Updating of Part IX “Materials and Welding” has been performed, taking into account the advanced requirements for the materials used for the manufacture of gas carrier hull structures and members of LNG containment and processing systems.
