The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping signed a new agreement with the Maritime Administration of Cyprus, expanding the scope of authority delegated to the Russian Maritime Register for the inspection of ships flying the flag of Cyprus.
The signing took place on 23 July 2019 in Limassol, Republic of Cyprus, as part of a signing ceremony of new agreements between Cyprus and recognised organisations.
In particular, the Russian Register was entrusted with conducting ship surveys for compliance with the requirements of the Polar Code, the Code for the Safety of Special Purpose Vessels, and the Code for the Safety of Diving Complexes.
The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary of Cyprus Maritime Administration Costas Iacovou and Director General of the Russian Register Konstantin Palnikov. It entered into force on 1st August 2019.
The Republic of Cyprus is one of the largest flag states in the world by number of registered vessels.
The Russian Register was first recognized by the MA of Cyprus in 2005.
