Russian navy convoys five merchant ships off Somalia
The Admiral Vinogradov anti-submarine ship of the Russian Pacific Fleet has started patrolling the waters of the Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa, an official spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry said.
He added that the ship had already convoyed five merchant vessels and was now escorting three more ships.
The presence of international forces off the Somali coast and in the Gulf of Aden resulted in a sharp decrease in pirate activity in the area.
