A fishing boat with 21 people onboard has went missing in Russia’s Far eastern Primorye Territory, according to Russia’s Emergencies Ministry as cited by local media on Thursday.
Namely, in the morning hours of 25 January, the local Russian emergencies ministry’s crisis management center received information from a captain of the Vladivostok sea rescue coordination center that the Vostok fishing boat’s emergency radio buoy had had gone off some 200 kilometers south of Cape Gamov, a Ministry’s spokesman was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency.Attempts to establish radio contact with the boat were futile.
Additional information provided by Azerbaijan’s news agency indicate that there was a heavy weather at the time that the boat went missing, while a weather warning was issued by the regional emergency services ministry, saying boats were at risk of being quickly covered in ice, due to low temperature and strong wind.
A rescue boat of the coastal guards has been sent to the scene. A Russian defense ministry helicopter has also joined the search operation. Rescuers have so far covered 4,100 km2 of ocean and were set to continue at night using floodlights.
