Safe and secure operation of ships is impossible without scientific research
The leading scientists and experts or maritime industry will participate in the annual meeting of the RS Scientific and Technical Counsil (STC) Presidium. The STC members will summarize the 2011 research results and prioritize future developments.
Mikhail Ayvazov, the RS Director General, will open the meeting. He will sum up the results and highlight prospects of the RS activity.
Director of Classification and Development, Chairman of International Association of Classification Societies Pavel Shikhov, will deliver a report on the construction of new ships to the RS class. Currently, the research ship for the Russian Antarctic expedition and power unit for the world’s first floating nuclear power plant are under construction to the RS class, as well as the asymmetric icebreaker under then Federal Target Program the design of which is a logical development of double-acting ship concept. The report will also cover promising projects, including construction of two Atlantic-max LNG carriers.
Plans for extraction and transportation of energy resources in the RF Arctic regions increase the industry demand for construction of Arctic offshore development facilities and their service fleet. Sergey Balagura, Head of Offshore Oil and Gas Facilities Expertise and Verification Department, highlighted the oil and gas facilities technical supervision aspects. The technological ship and offshore ice-resistant technological platform for the development of the Shtokman field, facilities for the Caspian, Baltic and Barents Seas are among the RS current and future projects.
Development of the requirements for safe and secure operation of ships is impossible without scientific research. In 1915 the RS Scientific and Technical Council (STC) was established for the maritime safety scientific research coordination. Now STC comprises about 300 leading scientists and high-profile professionals of the industry, representatives of research institutes, design bureaus and universities.
