Royal Caribbean Cruises signed an agreement with energy provider Southern Power, for Southern Power’s 200-megawatt (MW) Reading Wind Facility. This initiative aims to reduce up to 12% of Royal Caribbean’s emissions beginning in 2020.
This wind facility is located in Osage and Lyon Counties, Kansas.
The facility is expected to generate about 760,000 megawatt hours per year over 12 years, which means enough clean energy to reduce 10-12% of Royal Caribbean’s annual carbon emissions starting in 2020.
The 200-MW project was originally developed by RES America Developments (RES) who will lead the construction of the project alongside Southern Power.
Reading Wind will include 62 wind turbines. The project is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2019 and is expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2020.
