Port of Rotterdam expressed its support to the European Commission’s efforts to promote the use of sustainable fuels in the shipping industry, as it will consequently accelerate its own eco-friendly initiative.
In fact, the Port informed that fully supports the “Fuel EU Maritime – Green European Maritime Space” and will actively boost the use of alternative fuels through its Incentive Scheme Climate-Friendly Shipping.
The Port of Rotterdam Authority takes into account the diversity and complexity of the future fuel mix in shipping and advocates clear objectives, as well as a roadmap with the possibilities for alternative fuels and shore power solutions per ship type and a clear timeline.

To further enhance the alternative fuels use, the port said that are exempt from energy tax at a national and European level.
The Port of Rotterdam Authority is also in favour of continuing to stimulate LNG as a transition path for the use of bio-LNG in the future.
