Unable to issue seafarer documents to seafarers in the region
The Republic of the Marshall Islands (“Marshall Islands”) issued Marine Safety Advisory to provide information regarding the issuance of seafarer documentation to applicants from the contested Crimea Region of Ukraine.
The Republic of the Marshall Islands (“Marshall Islands”) registered vessels are not currently prohibited under Marshall Islands law from calling in any country or region or having seafarers of any nationality serve aboard a Marshall Islands registered vessel.
However, due to the national and international trade restrictions it observes, the Republic of the Marshall Islands Maritime Administrator is currently unable to provide any services to persons residing in the contested Crimea region of Ukraine.
As a result, the Administrator is unable to issue seafarer documents to seafarers residing in this region at this time. Please note, however, that this policy does not invalidate or otherwise affect any documents previously issued by the Administrator.
The trade restrictions referenced above do not affect seafarers residing in other regions of Ukraine. Seafarer documents will continue to be issued by the Administrator to Ukrainian seafarers residing outside of the Crimea region.
