Some 25 people were injured, after the cruise ship ‘Swiss Crystal’ with 129 passengers onboard crashed into a motorway bridge on the Rhine river, Germany, local media reported.
The 100-metre-long vessel was sailing on the Rhine, heading to The Netherlands late on Tuesday evening, when it struck a pillar of the bridge near the western city of Duisburg.
The passengers, mainly nationals from Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, sustained minor injuries, and four people who were transferred to hospital, were released the next day. Several other ships were also dispatched to assist.
A second passenger ship provided by the Swiss went to the scene and passengers continued their journey.
The bow of the ferry sustained damage, while the motorway surrounding the bridge closed until Wednesday noon.
