The first incident involves the bulk carrier 'LA Solognais'. While at anchor in Muara Berau Anchorage, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, an unknown number of perpetrators boarded the ship, stole two mooring ropes and escaped. The theft was discovered during a security round.

The second incident involves the bulk carrier 'GH Rich Wal'. While at anchor in Taboneo Anchorage, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, six perpetrators armed with knives boarded the ship. The duty crew sighted the perpetrators and informed the duty officer. The alarm was raised, crew mustered and port control was notified. The perpetrators escaped immediately empty-handed after sighted by the crew. The crew was not injured. The Indonesian Police Coast Guard dispatched a vessel to the location of the incident.

Incident outside Asia

While the container ship 'Seaspan Saigon' was at berth on 1 June, an unknown number of perpetrators boarded the ship, tried to stole ship’s property and assaulted the crew. The OS suffered traumatic rotator cuff injury.

The ReCAAP ISC urges ship master and crew to report all incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships to the nearest coastal State and flag State, exercise vigilance and adopt relevant preventive measures taking reference from the Regional Guide to Counter Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia.
