The product tanker Tradewind Passion collided with Harbor Bridge in Georgetown, Guyana, on October 8.
The tanker was transiting the river when it collided with the open bridge. After the collision, the ship reversed course and returned to a fuel pier near the bridge.
As a result, several spans of the floating bridge were pushed about three feet out of position when the tanker struck, and an engineering team is working to bring them back into the proper position.
In fact, Nicholas Henry, a structural engineer with the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation, hopes his team hopes to have the bridge reopened for light traffic within two days.
More specifically, three spans need repairs, while the tanker also took out a cluster pile, and a heavier protective structure is under consideration for its replacement.
