ShipMedCare, a tele-medical service provider in Greece which specializes in medical tele-consulting services to shipping companies and seafarers, joined forces with Prime Marine Management, a Greek-based shipping company, to help battle the humanitarian crisis affecting the families of their seafarers.
The recent war in Ukraine has caused an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Europe. Seafarers and their families have been greatly affected by this turmoil. Families of Ukrainian seafarers based in various cities of Ukraine have been forced to flee their homes in search of a refuge from the war.
In particular, Prime Marine organized an operation, transporting the seafarers’ families from the Ukraine-Romanian border to the city of Constanţa. On March 10th, a combined delegation from Prime Marine and ShipMedCare visited the hotel housing the seafarers’ families.
Prime Marine represented by a top Management person and Crew Manager, Mr. D. Kampadelis, inspected on site, the facilities used by more than 120 women and children and reassured them, that they will be supported in every possible way by the company. Furthermore, similar care will be provided for all families arriving in their premises in Constanţa from then onwards.
ShipMedCare was represented by Dr. Periclis Tzardis, Chief Medical Advisor of the company and pediatrician Dr. Michalis Sarris. ShipMedCare offered the basic medical instruments for first line examination (infrared thermometers, electronic manometers, oximeters etc.) and a full supply of medications for children and adults.
ShipMedCare’s physicians examined patients and managed medical issues, both acute and chronic, in an age span ranging from an infant, 28-days-old, to a 78 year-old lady. Covid-19 rapid antigen tests were also carried out, where needed. Moreover, Dr. Tzardis and ShipMedCare’s medical personnel will remain available to offer their advice on medical issues which might occur in the future, either via telephone, video calls, or e-mail communication.
Many thanks are due to Prime Marine’s Mrs. Anastasiia Bykova and Mrs. Irina Leimane, who acted as our interpreters and helped in organizing the medical room and pharmacy. Both ladies will remain in Constanţa. They will be responsible for overseeing the hotel accommodations and the immediate needs of the seafarers’ families and further communications with ShipMedCare
