Directive 2012/33/EU
On 22-23 September, EMSA hosted a workshop for memberstates on the implementation of the revised Sulphur Directive.
With 1 January only a little over three months away, EMSApresented the EU information system currently underdevelopment which will be used as a harmonised platformfor reporting and exchanging information.
The systemwas developed at the request of member states following acooperation agreement with the European Commission’s DGEnvironment and should be operational by 1 January 2015.
EMSAalso presented draft inspection guidelines to be used by SulphurInspectors to ensure harmonised and effective checks throughoutthe EU. Environmental and maritime authorities from the memberstates participated in the workshop.
The participants welcomedthe work of the agency and will strive to finalise the work before theentry into force of the revised Sulphur Directive

EU legislation has been aligned with the IMO requirements by the Directive 2012/33/EU which has amended Council Directive 1999/32/EC as regards the sulphur content of marine fuels. |
