Portugal and Sines Port Authority have agreed regarding the expansion and completion of the third phase of the Terminal XXI expansion works. The overall project is expected to cost a total of €547 million.
Terminal XXI will now have a 1,950-metre quay, as well as a 60-hectare storage area. This will enable the capacity to be increased from 2.3 million TEU, to 4.1 million.
In addition, nine more cranes, along with 30 straddle-carriers and transportation equipment will also be bought.

According to local media, this agreement will advance job creation, and will also contribute to the socio-economic development of the region and the country.
What is more, Sines Port Terminal XXI received on July 21, the ship ‘Milan Maersk’, one of the largest container carriers in the world. The ship can carry up to 20,568 TEU. This ship called at the Port several times in the recent past.
