The Port of Malmo (CMP) informed that it conducted its first LNG bunkering operation. The operation took place while the vessel “Ireland”, which unloaded cement in Malmö, was provided with LNG via tanker lorries. The bunkering operation was conducted with the cooperation of the LNG supplier SkanGas, Cementa, and the Port of Malmo.

CMP’s Terminal Manager Emil Nordström, stated:
Ireland was provided with LNG via two tanker lorries on the quayside. The bunkering was undramatic, and it feels good for us now to be able to offer this possibility.
During the course of the work a large area on the quayside was excluded. When bunkering is being conducted the tanker is surrounded in white smoke. This is a completely harmless water vapour that is formed when the gas is pumped over to the vessel.
Now the Port is looking to expand its LNG services. As Mr. Nordström mentioned, the Port is “evaluating various solutions so that more types of vessels can bunker LNG.”
One of these solutions could be bunkering from ships, while the Port is also considering investing in its own permanent LNG infrastructure in the future.
