Port of Helsinki ordered an additional automated mooring system, in line with the port’s efforts to optimize safety and efficiency and also reduce environmental impact, following similar orders from the Port of Turku and Port of Tallinn in recent months.
The mooring system, MoorMaster, was ordered from Cavotek.
Specifically, the automated mooring system will be placed at berth LJ8 at Port of Helsinki’s Western Terminal. The ROPAX ferry ‘M/S Finlandia’ will use the system two to three times a day.
Sari Nevanlinna, Vice President Passenger Services, Port of Helsinki commented
An auto-mooring system decreases the time taken for vessel mooring and release. The time saved amounts to significant reductions in fuel consumption, improved local air quality and reduced noise pollution.
She added that the port is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of harbour operations through its Carbon Neutral programme. Given that the passenger terminal, T2, is centrally located nea to residential areas, it is of a great importance for the port to reduce the impact of their harbour operations.
