The Port of Barcelona recently announced its total handling amount of LNG bunkerings during 2019. The European port managed to handle 18 LNG bunkerings, including AIDAnova and the Costa Smeralda.
As the port further informed, around 37.200 cubic meters of LNG was bunkered via vessel-to-vessel operations, through a tanker to the cruise ships.

For the records, the Methane Coral has a tank capacity for 7.551 cubic meters, while there were five truck-to-ship bunkerings, adding another 400 cubic meters.
Moreover, around 10% of Barcelona port’s cruise traffic during 2020, is estimated to come from LNG-fueled ships.
In light of the situation, Barcelona made clear that seeks to be the main supply hub of LNG in the Mediterranean.
Overall, several days ago Port Authority of Barcelona along with Barcelona Port Welfare Committee (PWC) informed that started organizing ‘dock experience’ meetings between seafarers and port representatives on the dock of a terminal, in order to improve the experience of crews calling in the port.
