Port of Amsterdam is working to improve its facilities and services. From 1 September 2020, barges with trackers are able to take berth in specially designated berth areas.
The mooring facilities for barges at ‘het Slik’ can only be used for barges with trackers. ‘Het Slik’ is located in the eastern part of the IJ, between the KNSM island and Albemarle.
From 1 September, Het Slik is only intended for barges with trackers that are connected to Poseidon and for which the operator has concluded a data contract with Port of Amsterdam.
Barges that are not yet equipped with trackers can simply go to the other mooring locations for barges in Amsterdam and Zaanstad. These barge areas will remain accessible to all pushed barges until further notice, so with or without a tracker.
With this effort, Port of Amsterdam wants to encourage barges to provide barges with trackers and to connect them to Poseidon. The more barges are connected, the better the port can facilitate barges operators in finding free spaces.
Another advantage for barges with trackers is that these barges are eligible to be registered fully automatically for Inland Harbor dues. This is based on the actual visiting time.
The General Terms and Conditions for berths for push barges are effective from 1 September. Port of Amsterdam will monitor on 1 September whether the parties act in accordance with the scheme, observing a transition period of one month.
