Following the piracy attack onboard the product tanker MT Curacao Trader about a month ago, the 13 kidnapped crewmembers have been released from captivity.
As the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed, the seven Russian and six Ukrainian seafarers have been released and are all safe and well.
What is more, Nigerian officials along with officials of the Russian and Ukrainian Embassies in Nigeria collaborated with the vessel’s owner in order to secure and boost the release of the abducted sailors.
Following their release, the crewmembers are currently in a Nigerian Navy base and have since undergone medical examinations.
In fact, all of them are in good health conditions and are scheduled to fly back home to their families in Russia and Ukraine during the following days.
For the records, the pirate incident onboad the Liberian-flagged Curacao Trader occurred on July 17, some 230 nautical miles off Lagos by 8 armed individuals.
