IMB reports that a number of pirates attempted to approach a container ship while it was underway in five skiffs from astern in the Gulf of Aden on May 16, but successfully prevented from boarding when a security team from Solace Global, which was protecting the boxship, fired warning shots .
The master raised the alarm, increased speed and crew mustered as the skiffs came close to five cables from the ship and a ladder was noticed in one approaching skiff. An armed team onboard the vessel fired warning shots.
The master contacted the authorities and a nearby Japanese warship dispatched its helicopter, which resulted in the skiffs aborting and moving away.
