Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) is set to offer biofuel bunkering services to meet the growing decarbonisation needs of its customers.
This initiative is part of PCT’s strategy to address the increasing demand for greener solutions, as the Greek government has recently implemented Joint Ministerial Decision 115/2024, which revises biofuel blending ratios to align with the latest ISO 8217:2024 specifications.
Under these updated standards, marine fuels can now contain up to 100% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), a significant increase from the previous 7% limit for distillate fuels.
In response, the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) has enlisted external legal counsel to review the legal framework for biofuel bunkering operations at its terminal. As reported, the company is also collaborating with suppliers to broaden the range of biofuel options available to clients.
This move comes as the FuelEU Maritime regulations take effect and a new carbon pricing agreement was reached at the International Maritime Organization.
