The Norwegian Coastal Administration released photos from a fire incident involving the Russian trawler ‘Bukhta Naezdnik’. The NCA was called to assist in the extinguishing work when a fire erupted on the Russian trawler, while at the quay in Tromsø, on 25 September.
The Norwegian Coast Guard’s surveillance aircraft, LN-KYV, flew over the area on Sunday.
Despite inclement weather, the surveillance images showed no pollution on land or beach. However, an unknown quantity of fuel escaped from the vessel’s tanks.
The Norwegian Coastal Administration has its oil spill vessel ‘OV Bøkfjord’ on site to monitor the situation.
In addition, there are two vessels from the Vessel in Coastal Emergency Preparedness (FKB), as well as the tugboat preparedness vessel Stilborg.
The Inter-municipal Committee on Emergency Pollution (IUA) has appointed staff, and is cooperating with the Norwegian Coastal Administration in the ongoing action. Depot forces are also mobilized.
It is yet unclear what caused the fire. The long-term plan is to have the wreck removed. The Norwegian Coastal Administration will continue to monitor the situation.
