A COVID-19-hit cruise ship that was previously in Australia arrived in the Philippines on May 7, transporting 214 Filipino seafarers, according to the Philippine Coast guard.
Namely, the controversial MV Ruby Princess, which had sparked coronavirus infections and was the subject of an investigation in Australia, reached Manila. It was carrying 214 Filipino seafarers who were immediately tested for COVID-19.
Seafarers found positive for the new virus will be brought to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, while those who are negative will be sent home, but the will stay in a 14-day quarantine.
Overall, crew members of seven cruise ships had undergone testing on May 6, as medical teams from the Philippines Coast Guard carried out a massive testing aboard vessels.
Eight more cruise ships carrying Filipino seafarers are expected to arrive in the country within two weeks.
