The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Batangas, alongside the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) Batangas, responded urgently when MV Super Shuttle Roro 2 started drifting towards the Multi-purpose Berth at Batangas Port amid strong winds and waves from Tropical Storm Kristine.
An alarm from VTMS Batangas at 4:31 PM on October 23, 2024, alerted nearby vessels of the danger as the “dead ship” with three personnel aboard was dragged from its anchor point outside the Delta Anchorage Area in Bauan, Batangas. The vessel, owned by Asian Marine Transport Corporation and awaiting dry docking, had lost anchor control in the severe conditions.
To prevent further escalation, Coast Guard Station Batangas coordinated with VTMS and Asian Marine Transport Corporation, which dispatched Motor Tug Sedar 6 to assist. However, due to deteriorating weather, the towing attempt was aborted. The vessel was ultimately secured at the berth to await improved conditions, with PCG monitoring the situation to ensure port safety.
The PCG advises mariners to remain cautious during adverse weather, underscoring the importance of safety protocols in challenging conditions.
