The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued fourteen Chinese crew members of a cargo vessel that ran aground on 26 Feb in Occidental Mindoro and were rescued Monday morning, 27 Feb.
In its incident report posted on social media, the PCG-Occidental Mindoro said the crew members of M/V Manfel V were found in the waters approximately 110 meters from the shorelines of Barangay Maligaya in Lubang town.
Based on the initial investigation, the vessel suffered engine trouble at around 9 a.m. on Saturday off Fortune Island while en route to Bauan, Batangas from Subic, Zambales. It drifted toward Lubang Island and subsequently ran aground.
However, during the morning of February 27th the waves calmed down. The SAR operation was able to string a rescue line and form a human chain to assist the 14 crew members to shore.
MV Manfel V is a general cargo vessel with 498.72 gross tonnage skippered by Captain Radie Brillante and operated by Manfel Cargo Shipping based with business address at Taguig City.

All the 14 crew members rescued were brought to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to undergo a medical check-up and antigen test.
“Fortunately, they were all in good physical and health condition. All 14 crews onboard are in the custody of PCG substation-Lubang for further inquiry,” the report added. ”PCG-Station Occidental Mindoro is continuously monitoring the grounded vessel to check any signs of oil spillage and further advised the master of a vessel to file a marine protest” it said.
Members of the responding team shall assess any damage to marine environment incurred due to the ship’s grounding
