Petrobras’s Chief Executive Pedro Parente informed about some “interesting discoveries” that the company is making in Campos Basin blocks, off Rio de Janeiro, where it is drilling to reach the pre-salt layer.
These discoveries were made in fields being operated for years by the company, but Mr. Parente did not give any more information, as the findings are still being analyzed.
Petrobras will meet with the Brazilian government during February to discuss the Transfer of Rights contract, which was signed in 2010. According to the contract, Petrobras can extract 5 billion barrels of oil equivalent from fields Brazil transferred to the company when oil prices were high, Reuters reported.
With the new contract, Petrobras seeks to achieve more volumes of oil that are present in these areas, and Mr. Parente is confident that an agreement will be made between the parties, probably during 2018.
