The Peruvian government has now ratified the United National Convention on the Carriage of Goods by Sea as adopted in Hamburg in 1978 (the Hamburg Rules).
This means that the Hamburg Rules will come into effect in Peru a year after the ratification on 1 April 2022. Until then, the Hague Rules will continue to apply.
The Hamburg Rules were adopted by a diplomatic conference on 31 March 1978. This Convention establishes a uniform legal regime governing the rights and obligations of shippers, carriers and consignees under a contract of carriage of goods by sea.
Peru has now become the 36th signatory of the United National Convention on the Carriage of Goods by Sea.
