They successfully scooped up oil mixture from M/T Emilio Jacinto
Personnel of the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Bacolod and crew members of M/T Emilio Jacinto have successfully scooped up oil mixture which leaked off a submarine pipe at the vicinity if Petron Depot Jetty in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City on Saturday, 29 September.
Investigation showed that on or about 5:30 PM of the said day, the duty watchman noticed some oil sheen at the vicinity of the vessel. Immediately, transfer operation was stopped. Subsequent inspection showed that the oil spill was caused by a leaking submarine pipe. An approximate of 300 liters of bunker fuel reportedly leaked.
Immediately, Marine Environmental Protection Unit personnel made coordination with the Depot manager to utilize their oil spill equipment. At 6 PM, Coast Guard Station Bacolod personnel together with Petron personnel proceeded to the area and found out positive traces of bunker fuel which probably occurred during unloading/transfer operations conducted by M/T Emilio Jacinto. At 10 PM September 29, 2012 joint team from deployed five segments oil spill booms to contain spilt oil. With the use of the oil spill response equipment of the vessel and depot, the ship’s crew with the assistance of PCG personnel conducted recovery operations.
