The UK Coast Guard informed that it suspended the search and rescue operation for a missing person from a ferry, off the Aberdeenshire coast in the late hours of 27 June.
HM Coastguard was contacted by the MV Hjaltland just after 11 pm Wednesday reporting a missing person. The ferry had left Aberdeen at 7pm bound for Lerwick.
The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Inverness was sent along with RNLI lifeboats from Peterhead and Fraserburgh. Mayday relay broadcasts were issued and a number of vessels in the area also joined the search, including lifeboats from Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen, as well as Rescue Bond 1, a commercial rescue helicopter.
Lee Duncan, Controller for HM Coastguard said:
Following an extensive search of the area using multiple assets nothing has been found, the decision has been made to suspend the search pending further information.
