Madoqua, together with the Admnistração do Porto de Sines, Port of Rotterdam, and duisport – Duisburger Hafen AG, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a green corridor connecting Portugal with the Netherlands and Germany.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 5 November. The strategic partnership, supported by the Portuguese government, will enable a renewable supply chain for green hydrogen derivatives, including ammonia (MadoquaPower2X) and methanol (MadoquaSynfuels), as well as liquid CO2.
Key Highlights:
- Green Fuel Exports: Moving hydrogen derivatives as well as CO2, this corridor will serve as a gateway from Southern Europe to the industrial heart of Northern Europe.
- Sines as a Green Energy Hub: Strategically located along key Atlantic shipping routes, the Madoqua terminal in Sines will anchor this initiative, powered by renewable sources to build a resilient, sustainable energy supply chain.
- Investment & Scale: With a dedicated €500M investment, this corridor will drive green hydrogen production and distribution across Europe, advancing the shared goal of a low-carbon future.
- Shared Vision for EU Decarbonization: This partnership aligns with the EU’s decarbonization goals, enabling cleaner energy systems, enhancing Europe’s energy security, and building industrial resilience.
Selected as one of Europe’s core projects for CEF Energy funding by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, the Madoqua Green Fuels Terminal in Sines will be integral to the infrastructure supporting the energy transition.
